Tottenham Hotspur 1 Newcastle United 0 and a look at Sunday’s game against Leicester City

Before the Chelsea game on the 1st April, we thought that if we could beat them, then a top four spot would be a formality. And don’t forget that we were facing Chelsea on their own ground, which we haven’t won on for quite a few years. Nevertheless, we won that match 3-1 and thought it was all over bar the shouting. Six days later we travelled to Stoke and won that 2-1… as I said, it was all over.

As the saying goes, be careful what you say as it might come back and bite you on the arsenals. After that, we lost to City at home, drew against Brighton and then were knocked out of the FA Cup at Wembley by United. Oh, shit… what did we just say? But all seemed to get back on track when we faced Watford and won that 2-0 unconvincingly… did we dare to start laughing? No, we then met relegated – well, nearly – WBA and in a nail-biting game, where they managed to pull something out of the hat and in the dying minutes of the game get a goal and surprised everybody in the process. That severely dented our aspirations and we were pissed.

So… when we came to the Newcastle match the supporters were apprehensive and in a see-saw game, clutching our testicles (no offence to ladies, as they also gripped testicles, who’s, is not for me to speculation on), we waited with bated breath for us to pull something out of the hat. On the edge of our seats, we finally got the goal, but it didn’t end there as Newcastle kept trying to sneak a goal through our defence, but we stayed steady, even though jaded. We were on tender hooks, I can tell you. Where was that bloody whistle blower... But they didn’t score, we won, and the placed erupted in a poorly attended game (54,92354,923, not by old White Hart Lane standards though). We were relieved.

Before the match ended we all were looking at our phones to see what the news was between Chelsea and Huddersfield and it was good, they could only draw 1-1 thus allowing us to secure Champions League football, and in the process secure Huddersfield another year in the Premier League. Now Chelsea must win their last game and Liverpool must lose if they have got any chance of overtaking them. For our part, we can secure third place if we win our last remaining match. Simples! Not quite, Leicester City beat Arsenal 3-1 at their last home game. Yes, we are at home and they shall be our guests, but that doesn’t really mean anything. Leicester City has had an up and down season so anything can happen, more so as we haven’t been entirely the spark we should have been. Jaded or not we’ve been continually misfiring and spluttering all over the place this season. Yes, we’ve played all our games away from home and at the beginning of the season nobody gave us any chance and all the pundits didn’t expect us to be in the top-four. But we did it with a few surprises on the way (i.e.Champions League football progress).

A quick look at Sunday’s team news: Serge Aurier, Mousa Dembele, Kieran Trippier and Victor Wanyama all face fitness tests. Eric Dier returns, but Harry Winks remains unavailable.

Leicester will be without Ben Chilwell, Robert Huth, Daniel Amartey, Vicente Iborra, Wilfred Ndidi, Matty James and Shinji Okazaki. Danny Simpson and Kasper Schmeichel could also miss out, and Marc Albrighton is suspended.

Whatever the result is on Sunday we shall be playing our third continuous season in the Champions League, and considering where we were a few seasons back then, then that is an excellent achievement.

Will we be glad to see the back of Wembley? Well, I am looking forward to our new home, but it has been an experience and a historical moment playing at Wembley.

So… unforgettable times… did it and now we move on and fight for new glories and create a new history, but whatever we do do we will always be the Spurs fighting for Truth, Justice and the American way (oh, that was Superman… went off track, but just a little…).

So to Sunday, then some British summer heat, World Cup hopes, followed by friendlies and then anticipation for the new season ahead of us.

I won’t stop tickling the ivories so stay tuned and see what wonders I come up with, not least the final comments to a hard and in different season… but a season where we achieved Champions League football again.

God Bless Spurs and up the Spurs and victory on Sunday.

Don Scully… take care and don’t do anything illegal otherwise you just might get caught, and we don’t want that, do we? (Depends on what we get caught doing)… True.
