Brighton 1 Tottenham Hotspur 1

In yesterday’s match we had most of the possession, but we still couldn’t put it away against a team that is fighting relegation. And it is those sort of matches we need to win. Chelsea will try to catch us up and it is these sort of match that we needed to win to hold them off.

At times the match last night was nail biting but we just couldn’t put it away. No matter what we tried, and we tried. The trouble is when you change the team, even in small ways they are still not familiar with the eleven that constantly play together. And it is not good saying we've got up and coming events, that nowadays doesn't wash.

Players were rested because of the Saturday’s match, but in the pre-Premier league days we used to have matches were we had the same players mid-week and weekends and only changing it if there was an injury. We could end up looking back at last night’s match and saying “if only we had won then we might have ended up in the top four.”

As I was watching last night’s match I thought that we are still along away from challenging for the title and at the moment our only hopes are cup matches. We need to reinforce our squad in the same way the United’s, City’s and Chelsea’s do, otherwise we could find that every season we are struggling to enter the top four, and if we do get there then fighting to keep our place, which looks like it could be the case at the moment. A new 62,000 seater stadium needs bums on seats otherwise Spurs could be hosting a half empty stadium. Just look at Arsenal, they’ve slipped down and crowds are staying away. Success brings punters and punters bring money and atmosphere. Another point; if we want to replace Chelsea and Arsenal as London's top team then we need a bit more effort. The only thing going for us at the moment is that Chelsea and Arsenal are not performing full-throttle and will probably spend more next season to make sure that they are in the top four again.

As for Brighton, they could have won it as they took their chances here and there. But a point for them was better than a point for us. They are struggling, we are supposed to be title contenders, not football fodder, like the likes of West Ham, Brighton and such.

With  Kane’s 26th minute goal we thought that that was it, but a few minutes later they got a penalty because of a stupid error by Aurier. One-one and they really went for it. We had other chances where we could have got the winner, but it wasn’t to be and it is no good “nearly, but not quite,” as it doesn’t wash.

Our next league match is against Watford at Wembley, and don’t forget they held us to a draw at their ground, another team that needs the points. Our impressive record is now gone from Wembley and teams like Watford will come to our temporary home and think they can win, if not win then get a draw. Another draw while the challengers for the top four spot keep winning and we will really be in the shit.

Another issue is Season ticket prices: fans will continue paying, but they will want something in return, and that will be Tottenham being successful. If they don't get it then it all could fall apart for Daniel Levy and co.

At the moment we are top-four and to stay there we need to buck our ideas up or this season could end in a disaster.
