Tottenham Hotspur 6 Rochdale 1
What a calamity yesterday was. Yes, I am talking about the match. This VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is a joke. It confused everybody, nobody in the stadium knew want was going on, not even the referee it seemed. This has nothing to do with the beautiful game, but more of a Laurel and Hardy sketch. And a stupid one at that.
The crowd started to boo, and who could blame them. Should technologies hold up the game and irritates the spectators. As for people watching from home, it must have been the same frustration. At least they could go out and make a cup of tea or kick the cat. All we had is each other and nobody fancies kicking anybody other than the VAR system.
First Lamela thought he scored and then after a long wait found out he hadn't. We could have gone into the food stalls and got a lunch while we waited. Then there was a free kick, then it wasn’t but it was a penalty and then the VAR wasn’t happy with the way Son took it and not only was the goal disallowed but Son was booked. Nice one referee, whichever one it was.
Of course, the other calamity was nobody’s fault. That was the weather. The worst conditions, they say. But bloody cold. A pity we weren't sitting next to a bunch of beautiful women then we could have cuddled up with them to keep each other warm (not political correct thinking I suppose!). Alas, we only had a cup of tea to warm our cold hands. But I am digressing.
The first goal was from Nice one Son, they equalised and we thought it was going to be one of those days. The first half was a bit like that. We were thinking “was a giant-killing on here?” We only had to wait until the second half to find out it wasn’t. Up popped Llorente to score his first after 47 minutes. We were up from our seats and cheering him. Hopefully, that will build his confidence. Then low and behold he got a second. Well, that brought the smile to our faces, and his. He was obviously feeling pleased with himself in the blizzard. Six minutes later he got a hat-trick. You could knock us down with a feather. But we were ecstatic. Brilliant. OK, it was only Rochdale, but out of small acorns grow big trees. Not that he wasn’t established player anyway.
That made it 4-1, but the evening wasn’t over by a long shot. No, Sir. Nice one came again and scored his second, or should that have been his third goal that wasn’t. Either way, we were winning 5-1 and that seemed it. With only minutes to go Walker-Peters popped up and scored his first FA Cup goal. The final score was 6-1 and controversy. Great for the papers, but not for those that watched. With the snow coming down heavily at least we went home happy and thinking about the next round. Which will be against Swansea City, away.
I stayed in London for the evening and had to make my way up north the next day or a business trip. Even today the weather hasn’t let up and if nothing changes weather wise then there might be some questions about Saturday’s match.
Luckily for us, Kane wasn’t used and could be rested and ready for the either Huddersfield and Juventus or both. I am sure Llorente will be more in the manager's plans after his hat-trick.
So there you have it. A very cold day, but we went away with a warm heart and our thoughts on Saturday’s game.
Do you know that we haven’t lost a game this year (of course you do!). We have to go back to December, and away, to see our last defeat and that was against league leaders and probably eventual Premier League Champions. Unless a disaster hits them and we take over, then it will be us and not them who win the league… and pigs can fly… just see Arsenal on their Europa league European tours… who said t
he impossible can’t happen? Our motto is “To dream is to do”. Ok, not exactly right, but goes with my little ditty. And if that comes true then maybe we should think of a new motto.
Until next time, take care,
