AFC Bournemouth 1 Tottenham Hotspur 4

What a week of football it has been for us. On Saturday the 3rd we beat Huddersfield Town 2-0, pumped up we were ready to take on Juventus. And we played well against them, but that didn’t stop us being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League.

Then Sunday came along and we face Bournemouth, and our heads could have fallen. In fact, the match did start off that way. First AFC got a goal after seven minutes, and then 28 minutes later Kane went off with an injury. It could have all ended in a disaster, but alas, Alli got a goal back for us and equalised. The fightback started.

In the second half, Son got two goals, making it 3-1. And in the dying minutes, Aurier scored a brilliant goal to give us a 4-1 win. A sign of a good team is when they can turn it all around (OK, we didn’t do that against Juventus, but Juventus were no ordinary team and had years of experience on their side. They capitalised on our 3 minutes of naivety).

On Saturday United faced Liverpool and to be honest any result from that match would have done us well. As it happened United humbled Liverpool and won 2-1. This result increased the pressure on us to get a result so that we could leapfrog Liverpool, and fortunately, we did. Pushing us to third place and thus seeing Liverpool drop to 4th. Both Chelsea and Arsenal won their weekend games. Chelsea are still five points behind us, while Arsenal are thirteen. All looks good so far, but we must keep up the momentum. A slack performance by us could see that quickly change. United, Liverpool, Chelsea and our good-selves all can see top spots in their/ our grasp. Out of those four teams I mentioned only three of them could end up second, third or fourth. And even fourth isn’t guaranteed if Arsenal win the League Cup and Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League. Granted, unlikely, but not out of the reaches of possibility.

Apart from City, we have no other top teams to face in the run-up to the final day of the league season. Saying that, I do fear the bottom and midtable sides more than I do the top teams. They have a lot to fight for and won’t let go easily.

Even our next match against Swansea aren’t going to give up their quest for a place in the FA Cup final. Since getting a new manager, their fortunes have changed dramatically. If we are not careful, we could come away from that match with nothing.

In April we’ve got Chelsea (A), Stoke (A), City (H), Brighton (A) and then Watford at home.

The last month of the football season (May) we have to face WBA (A) and Leicester City at home. All tricky encounters. One other match we’ve got is against Newcastle United at home, but a date for that match hasn’t been decided yet.

So, that is that. Only a couple of months to go, but they are going to be a long couple of months. Those months will decide whether we take something back to our new stadium or not and whether we will be in the UEFA Champions League or Europa league.

Yours Truly,

Don Scully
