Tottenham Hotspur 2 Manchester United 0 Wembley: 31 January 18

Tonight’s game against United just might be the turning point we needed.

Before the game, we all went thinking about possibilities. We were told that United will swamp us and we would be knocked out of sight. What actually happened was the opposite. Just like the games against Real Madrid and Dortmund. Just like the so-called jinx – Wembley jinx – would do us. But we stood tall and showed our metal.

We are now only 5 points behind second place United. Two points behind the third and fourth place. And the third place we meet on Sunday.

We’ve always had a great team/ squad, but like all teams, we had a few bumps, but we shock them off, wiped ourselves down and came out with intent.

Last night’s game started with a packed house (81,978: a Premier league record). The atmosphere felt right, the food and drink beforehand settled the stomach and the focus was made keen. We made our way to our seats, talked to those around us and settled down as the teams came out of the tunnel.

Once the preliminaries were dealt with the players got into position and then the whistle went. Before we even could get our breath a goal was made in eleven seconds, by Eriksen. This goal came close to a previous fast, and that was scored by one of our own (Ledley King,. but quicker, if that is possible). We waited with baited breath to see what United would do. They came back pretty quickly, but once they had their few minutes of trying to get a goal we took over and another goal came, thanks to an own goal by the United player Jones. After that, they battled, we just battled harder and could have scored more. We were strong, focused and ready for anything. The best team won, the team with most of the possession showed the pretenders to the throne how it should be done.

We went home happy with full of cheer in our hearts. Like the Madrid game and other Champion league matches, we knew we had it. We felt that this year was part of a building process and anything was possible. Granted, we aren’t going to win the league, but there are three other slots we can go for; Champions League, FA Cup and a top-four place. Rome wasn’t built in a day and nor was our great double winning team of 1960/61.

Spurs need to take something special back to your new stadium. We’ve waited so long for a manager that could fulfil our dreams and we have it with Pochettino.

Our next match will be against Liverpool, and if we win that we at least go above them. On Monday Chelsea face Watford, at Watford… but before that United takes on Huddersfield. I expect United to beat Huddersfield and one would expect Chelsea to beat Watford, but with memories of the Bournemouth game, we know that anything is possible. And as we know, the impossible can easily turn into fact.

A great evening, a great capacity and a great result. Have faith and hope and our dreams can come true. There is a God out there, and he is called Maurice Poch
ettino.

Yours, Don Scully
