The match between Liverpool and Spurs was an exciting spectacle, and yes we should have won. But we didn’t. When we face the top teams – away – we are either beaten or get a draw. It doesn’t matter how good we are, or whether we have most of the possession or not (in this case we did) we just don't get the result we want or should have. We dropped two points, and that is all that will matter at the end of the season.
Chelsea beat us at home, and we’ve got to play them at Stamford Bridge. City, United and Arsenal have beaten us away. Liverpool, we drew. Not good reading.
Now for the positive. In the last two games, we fought as a team possessed. Hopefully, this will be our turning point. Because, unless we continue this way we are not going to have a very fruitful season.
Tonight Watford will play Chelsea, and again we are waiting for something to happen outside our control. United won on Saturday and went further away from us.
Our next league match is against Arsenal, on Saturday. Need I say it again, that we need to win this one. A draw would be 2 points dropped, and to lose… well, that is unthinkable. On Sunday Newcastle will have, as their visitors, Machester United. Southampton’s visitors will be Liverpool, and as for Chelsea, they will have another Monday evening match, then they face, at home, WBA. It can’t get any better for these teams. But Bill Nicholson might give us some of his sunshine and a few blows here and there to help do the trick. Good ol’ Nick.
Mentioning Bill Nick; back in his time you could build a team and the players would be patient. Nowadays, if they don’t get a whiff of success/trophies then the team/ manager starts to look over their shoulders for greener pastures. It is important that we keep our manager and the players. This year is an important one for us. Ending good, with trophies and then a trip from Wembley back to our ancestral home will set us up nicely.
No matter how much I criticise I do have faith in our team and the squad. But that doesn’t mean I won’t get jitters here and there. Whatever happens, it will be about the end of the season and what we’ve got to show for it.
Yours, Don Scully
