Rochdale 2 Tottenham Hotspur 2

Yesterday was a day of frustration. The first half Rochdale played well and frustrated Spurs. Rochdale deserved to end of the first half being a goal up. The second half we came back a bit and had most of the possession, but that didn’t stop Rochdale coming at us. We equalised with the new recruit Lucas Moura and then looked like we were cruising to a win when Kane scored from the penalty spot. That was until we took our eyes off the ball and allowed Rochdale's Davies to score in extra time. To be honest we didn’t shower this competition with respect.

At one time the FA Cup was the highlight of the season. That has now dropped down in the pecking order. First UEFA Champions League, Premier League, top-four spot and the FA Cup, with the league cup trailing behind. This shows in Premier league selections.

Even though we will be expected to win in the replay I have no doubt that a similar team selection will be put into use, while Rochdale will have a full and strong squad. We are only a couple of games away from the final. We can’t just expect to win the UEFA Champions title and be in the top four. We must respect all competitions and hope to give our best in all.

This extra match gives us a headache. Now our match against Palace will be put back to make way for Rochdale on the 28th February. Then a few days after that we face Huddersfield at home on Saturday. If only we took this game seriously we might have had more respite to prepare for other things; like the league.

If we get past Rochdale then we have another away match, this time against either Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea, and without no chance of a replay. I wonder what will be in the thoughts of Pochettino about team selection?

We’ve gone past the halfway stage, knocked out of one competition (League Cup), but still in two more (UEFA Champions League and FA Cup) and fighting for a top-four finish (and in a healthy position). Let us not waste it by stupid team selections or thinking our hopes lie in higher positions than the FA Cup.

We’ve only got 3 months to go before the end of the season so we should batten down the hatches and prepare for a full onslaught. We are not alone in fighting onCity has got the league sewn up, let us try to sew up other competitions and place settings.
many fronts and at the end of the day, there will only be a few winners.

Spurs, one and all,

Yours Truly, Don Scully
