Juventus 2 Tottenham Hotspur 2
Higuain’s got two goals (one a penalty) and heads dropped and the travelling fans thought it was all over. But after ten minutes the troops rallied and the landscape changed.
Kane scored, but before we could take a breather they got a second penalty, just before half-time. But nervousness forced the home team to hit the woodwork and we smiled. We rallied again after the break and scored another one, thanks to Eriksen. But that didn’t stop us and we continued battling on and could have got another.
What was particular about this match was the way we fought back after going two down. We were men possessed (and had possession of 67%) and fought for every ball. Juventus didn’t know what hit them on their own ground and run around like headless chickens. They thought their superior reputation would put fear into our souls, but it was fear we put into theirs. Juventus didn't realise
that they were against an ordinary European football team and obviously took no notice of our games in the group stages. They thought we would turn their ground into a holiday circus for their supporters and put on something special on display for the travelling guests. But all scripted scripts don’t always turn out the way they thought their vision demanded. No, they visioned their arrogance above reality. We visioned what we were capable of and wanted to show that (and we did). Spurs wanted to createJuventus’ ground as their showcase, not the home teams. And we got our wish.
We rattled the journalists' and TV pundits' cosy prescribed biased opinions into looking a bit closer to what Spurs are morphing into, not what they thought Spurs were. Once the lights came on they sat up and took notice and actually started thinking that the group stages wasn’t Spurs lucky moment but what we Spur's supporters actually knew what was happening. That we have something special and we were going to show the world what we can offer them. And offer them we did.
When we faced United the critics were out in force ad started to do write-ups on how the Red Devils would get another three points to help them challenge for the title. But three points they didn’t get. Then they dismissed that victory as a lucky moment for us; then we face another red team and the pundits started talking about how Liverpool would do us over and restore reality in their world, but after going down we fought back brilliantly and got a draw. The colour Red wasn’t at the end. We faced Arsenal at Wembley and they all talked about how they – Arsenal – would win because they needed to win and it was a match to show what they – Arsenal – had to offer the top four places available. But we outplayed them and showed the world who are the kings of North London. But that laughter never stopped and our European neighbours would show the world what the colour red couldn’t. An emphatic win to showcase their dominance. But, and as I said, that didn’t go to script as well and they were shown who was boss and the new challenges to the European throne.
Now we are at the day after the day that Juventus thought they would set the earthquake around the football world, but it wasn’t them that got all the positive headlines, but us who dared to go and stick their heads in the lion's mouth and bit its tongue to a point that it rolled over submissively.
When will the world and its mother start to wake up and see that the football world is now producing; something special, with excitement and a thrill that hasn’t been seen for years. Not only in the name of Tottenham Hotspur FC but in the individual players that make up that squad, names like Kane, Eriksen, Lamela, Lloris and the list go on.
What you get in the press is that so-and-so will leave the club for greater rewards elsewhere, not realising that everybody knows – who is connected to the club – that the rewards are right in front of them. And to-boot a new club to go with what is exciting at N17.
Wake up and take note, we are not a one season wonder, but an earthquake that is erupting and will continue to erupt. Yes, smell the coffee. Spurs are here and they are parking their name on everybody’s lips. We are the kings of North London and the world.
