Tottenham Hotspur 4 Everton 0

I have just been watching a thrilling match between Liverpool and City. City, up and until now were undefeated. Liverpool put 4 past them to give City their first defeat of the season. City are still 15 pts above second-place United, and 18 above us.

In a couple of weeks we face Liverpool at Anfield, but before that, we face United at Wembley. To win both matches and the top four spots can have a totally different complexion.

We are 3 pts behind United, Chelsea and Liverpool. Arsenal who were beaten by Bournemouth, at the moment are irrelevant. But we must never take anything away from Arsenal, who we face next month.

As for the Everton game. They did come to play but played awful seemed to be their game.

Harry Kane scored two excellent goals, probably not brilliant, but they all count. This puts him above Teddy Sheringham in the Premier League goals for his club.

His first goal was a Son and Eric Dier conversion. He has now scored 98 Premier League goals. But it was Son who scored Spurs first goal, from a Serge Aurier’s cross. He has scored in five league games, the first time a Spurs player has done this in 13 years.

Christian Eriksen scored from a Dele Alli backheel. To be fair he should have been on the scoring sheet.

We had 62% of possession, but I would have put it more.

We are now unbeaten in six of our matches. We have been beaten only once at home in the Premier League, and that was by Chelsea in our opening game at Wembley.

Tottenham, who are now unbeaten in six matches and remain fifth in the Premier League, but are 18 points behind leaders Manchester City.

In the next couple of weeks we have Southampton away, United at home, and then into February, we face Liverpool at Anfield, followed by our arch-rivals Arsenal at home and to round it all off a trip to Palace on the 26th February. To have any chance of being in the top four we must stay unbeaten, in fact, we must win those games to be considered for a UEFA Champions place. Unless, of course, we win the trophy. And that isn’t out of the question.

With the squad we have, and our two injured coming back, I believe we can make a very good challenge in all competitions. Even winning silverware at the end of the day.

As for the league title, nothing is impossible until it becomes impossible. City have shown that they can be beaten and the top four clubs, even those from outside the top four, will believe that City can be rattled again. Whether it will happen, only time will tell.

Yours, Don Scully
