The FA Cup 3rd starts for us tomorrow. Spurs have won this competition eight times. They were the first and only non-league club to have won this trophy. We were also the first club to win the double in the 20th Century. So we have proud memories and history in this contest. Sadly, over the years it has lost its importance and charm, at least for the big clubs as they feel they’ve got bigger fish to fry. Of course, the older generation sees it differently, but if you talk to the youth of today they regard the league and European football a higher priority. I was talking to one old timer awhile back and he said that some regarded winning this competition more important than winning the league.

Even our manager came out the other day and said that he didn’t regard this competition a priority. So there you have it. Obviously, it is ranked higher than the League cup, but below the Premier League title and Champions Cup. How times have changed.

Tomorrow we face AFC Wimbledon. The old Wimbledon has won this competition, this club was formed in 2002 and is currently in league 1.
Tomorrow players like Kane and Lloris will probably be rested, along with a few others. Allowing other squad members to get into the act. This will probably give AFC a boost and they will fancy their chances. Giant killing is all about smaller clubs giving the bigger clubs a black eye, and over the years we have had a few, and a few lucky chances.

With Spurs still in the UEFA Champions competition and fighting for a top place in the Premier league I will be surprised if we go all the way, but then again this competition is all about luck and luck can come from any angle.

Wimbledon are currently 21st in their league, just below the relegation zone. So one would have thought that they were easing pickings for us.

The match is a sellout, and that isn’t really surprising as the tickets were sold very cheaply so all the family and friends could come along.

So let us get behind our team and show our colours and hope we get a good win. I am predicting a high scoring game. Players must show that they are capable of getting into the grown-up team.

All the best, Don Scully
