Southampton 1 Tottenham Hotspur 1 and my predictions.

How many times do we say that we must win this game, only to get a draw or lose and then the excuses come on thick and thin? It is not over until the fat lady sings and all that crap. Granted, there is a long way to go, but that long way will get shorter as the time goes by.

I know we were without certain key players yesterday, but the squad makeup defines them. All teams – through a season – are going to get injuries and that is where the squad come into effect. Those that have a strong squad will rise above the problems and battle on. So using the old worn out rhetoric that we haven’t got a complete compliment isn’t going to wash, or isn’t the sort of talk one expects for a challenging team that hopes for a top-four place, and trophies as well.

The Saints got their goal from a deflection (they all count) and four minutes later Harry Kane popped up. That was that. The rest was twoing and froing until the final whistle went (even with five minutes added on).

So know we have City sitting on top with 65 points (and probably have won the league). In second place we have United 53 pts. Now, this is where it gets interesting. We face United in less than two weeks and could cut that gap to 5 points and send out a very important message.

In third place we have Chelsea, and they have 50 pts. That is five points more than us. We also have to face them at Stamford Bridge. Next – in fourth place – we have Liverpool. Presuming they win tonight – against Swansea City – they will also be on 50 pts. And we face them in a couple of weeks. So, no way is it over, but we do need to buck our ideas up.

I know that every time I write I make excuses, but I am an optimist. The glass is always half full (rather than half empty). Like the British soldier, you must keep fighting until you drop and die.

Out of the top six clubs – who have a chance of getting into the top four –, I believe Liverpool and Arsenal will be the losers. Saying that, I don’t believe United and Chelsea are out of the woods either.

City are the only club that you can say – with any certainty – has claimed a top-four spot.
I am sure you all will be hoping that I am right, but no doubt will mock if I am wrong. You put your penny in and then make a wish and hope for the best.

Yours Truly, Don Scully
