After the City humiliation, we set off for a Christmas period. We faced Burnley, away, and got a 3-0 win (great!), then we moved back to Wembley and faced Southampton, an even better result. We beat them 5-2. So that is the story up to then.
Under atrocious conditions, we went the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City (who else comes from that stadium!). There we got two goals. Three games and three victories. But to keep up with those above us (keeping up with the Joneses) we needed a fourth victory, this time our adversaries were West Ham United. After a humiliating defeat in the League Cup – at Wembley – we faced them again on Thursday 4th January (our first game at home in the new year). With over 71% of the possession, it seemed that there could be only one outcome. And don’t forget that they were near the foot of the Premier League, fighting for their own survival. Nevertheless, they came to defend and hoped that they would get a lucky goal, and they did, thanks to Pedro Obiang long-range strike. A few changes by our manager and three subs came on. But it was a goal by Son – already on, from the beginning – that got our goal. Sadly, we couldn’t finish off the strugglers and we went away with just a point. West Ham was even luckier to walk away with anything, but they did.
So, where does that leave us? Well, in fifth position and still chasing the pack. The one good thing that came out of the Christmas period was Arsenal and Chelsea drawing 2-2. The others sadly won.
Being an optimistic person I can always say that we are only six points behind second-place United (we are not going to talk about City). Six points, with only half the season gone, isn’t such a big deal. More so when we are going to face Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the next couple of weeks. But we must win these matches. Draws or losses isn’t any good for man or beast. We must come out fighting and kick the bastards where it hurts. Right in the balls… or would it be more appropriate to say “net”? Whatever terminology one wants to use, win, we must. Otherwise, we will take fuck all back to our new stadium. And even Europa league football could be a push, more so with Arsenal and Burnley and god knows who else coming in the outside lane.
In January we face – league only – Everton (H), Southampton (away) and back to Wembley to face United at the end of the month. Then we go into February with the continuation of the Champions League, but in the league, we face Liverpool (away), Arsenal (H) and then round off the month with a trip to Palace’s ground. If we can’t get a strong showing against those teams then we might as well throw the towel in and think of mediocrity, while heads held down, back to our new home. That sort of shit, we don’t want.
So, let's think positive... and hope that the team will also be on the same wavelength as us. On top of that, if our team can't win anything this season they might start thinking "Real Madrid," "Barcelona," and such shit.
