Was our 5-1 win over Stoke down to superior play or poor stoke performance? Only time will tell. Our next two matches are against Brighton (home) and City away. Some blame our performance on Europe, and now that we have a couple of months free our performance has perked up a bit. If that is the case then what happens when we are back in European football? Great teams can walk between two roads, at the moment Spurs squad are learning to walk together on one path.
Against Apoel and Stoke we were up against poor opposition. Granted we beat Liverpool convincingly, but the real test will be in the next couple of weeks. We must grasp that with both hands and show our victory yesterday was no fluke, based on poor opposition performance.
I was delighted as anybody that we had a good win, but more such victories must follow. Spurs must be hungry for the golden goose and fight with passion. We have a good squad.
Tottenham have gone back down to 6th position. But with Chelsea being beaten and Arsenal and Liverpool drawing the gap has closed some. The Christmas period will show everybody our mental. We have a very heavy Christmas period, but then so does every other team fighting for something.
the first half of the Stoke game was nothing to shout about. We went ahead with a own goal (Shawcross), but the rest of that half was laboured.
The second half we perked up a bit with poor defending by Stoke. First Son scored, making it 2-0, followed by Kane (twice), to make it 4. Eriksen took it to five, while Stoke got one back.
Just a matter of interest, Stoke are the first club in Premier League history to lose to the same opponent by four goals or more in four consecutive meetings.
So there we have it. I still have my fingers crossed. Brighton and Chris Hughton are our next opponents. No club can be underestimated and our great victory over Stoke can easily go up in a puff of smoke. Let us hope Spurs get a grip and come out fighting for all they are worth.
Yours truly, Don Scully
