Football over Christmas.

Spurs are currently sitting in 7th place, a poor showing – so far – for us. Our next opponents  (tomorrow) – Burnley – are currently above us in 6th place. One point ahead. After the mauling by City, we must regain our footing or face disaster (ok, more disaster). Burnley are a strong side, who deserve to be where they are. So a strong match ahead, but a match we must win.

We had better expectations than we are currently showing. If we don’t get back on the right footing we could end up slumping it even further. Last season was a fantastic achievement, this season, with great expectations on our shoulders, we have shown our season, so-far, to be a pig’s ear. Tomorrow’s match must be the game that shows everyone that our past failings were just a blip. Then on Boxing day, we face Southampton, at White Hart lane. Another tough match. They are in 12th place, we have a 13pts gap over them.

Tonight Liverpool face Arsenal away – a draw would probably do us good. Then tomorrow; Chelsea face a revitalised Everton (at Goodison Park), while City takes on our Boxing day opponents. United travel to Leicester City; this match could go either way, just hope it goes the right way with a City win.

Then on boxing day United face our tomorrow’s opponent. While Liverpool takes on managerless Swansea City. We then have to wait until Wednesday to see how Newcastle fair against City, the current league leaders, who are running away with the title. Thursday sees invigorated Palace take on Arsenal.

So a lot of calculations to see how Spurs sit – providing we win our two games – and those above us do badly. Yes, a lot to hope for, but football is about luck and good football. That is our luck.

Just some news: Davinson Sanchez is available after completing a three-match ban. Victor Wanyama is back in full training after a knee injury, but it might be a couple o games before we see him being picked.

All the best and Merry Christmas from Don Scully
