After a difficult league period I did say that it might be ironic that we went on and won this match. Then I saw the team sheet - 5 changes - and I thought better of it. But Apoel didn't display any fighting experience and were poor. Full credit to our reserve players who did us well. Now we have to wait for the draw at 11 am on Monday morning.
Llorente scored in his 17th appearance for us, Son got a second and N'Koudou scored the first in a game where Spurs had total possession. Granted, Apoel did have a few chances, but not enough to bother us. We have finished group H at the top with only one draw and the rest victories, the match against Real Madrid, away, was the drawn game. And in that match, I thought we did very well and they only came back into the match because they got a penalty.
The crowd was poor and we only got 42,000 approximately, maybe they thought we would lose or because we had won that group stage there wasn't much point in coming out on a cold December's evening. loyalty comes in many stages... and with a lot of blindness.
Next, we visit Stoke City in the league on Saturday for a much-needed win. Followed by Brighton on Wednesday (H).
I must add something to the Rose substitution. He was subbed because he suffered a cut and needed stitches. He wasn't angry and throwing a wobbly. I was in the tunnel when he rushed down and he wasn't annoyed or didn't seem to be. The press likes twisting things around to get the story they want.
don't forget the draw on Monday and tell me what you think.
All the best, Don Scully
