A goal from Kane saved our blushes (well, partly). Our performance wasn't what you would call good enough to challenge for the title. In fact, I do question whether it was even a top-four position. Contrast that with our performance in the UEFA Champions League and it was miles apart. The only other competition we were in was the League Cup and West Ham came back from the brink of defeat to humiliate us. That wouldn't be too bad if we had done better in the league.

You would think that Spurs were only interested in the Champions League. But speaking to the players they had assured me that that wasn't the case. Even Kane said he wasn't happy, and nor should he be. Actually, nobody should have been happy with that performance. The goal we conceded - Rondon -  after three minutes was such a soft goal that Lloris just stood there. And the Albion had other opportunities. Luckily for us, we did get one back. So far we've been beaten by Chelsea at Wembley, with Swansea, Burnley and WBA getting a draw on our “home” ground. That means we only have won three at our temporary "home"  in the league. Not very good, is it?

Where do we go from here? Well, we've got two important games this week. Leicester City - midweek - and Watford on Saturday and they are both must win games. No excuses. Today we've seen Arsenal leapfrog us, pushing us into 5th place. We are five points behind second-placed United (not unmanageable). Chelsea, who is in third place, two points above us. Arsenal, who sneaked into fourth place is one point ahead of us. What that tells us is that we are not going to have it easy in the league.

And what happens if we get knocked out of the UEFA Champions league? That leaves the FA Cup. And if that goes pear shaped we could end up with just a Europa league place to take with us to our new stadium. That also could mean players clamouring to leave us for a club that can actually win things. But let us not be too pessimistic as we are only at the end of November and there is still a lot to play for. And… the games we drew or lost we didn’t perform badly and we did have most of the possession. So let us have a smile and look to the Leicester City game and some positive uplifting news.

Christmas won’t be that long away, so don’t forget; when you make a wish think of the team you support, then connect that thought with a trophy or two and you just never know.

Your Truly, Don Scully
