Spurs 1 Bournemouth 0

Well, we broke our duck, at least in the league, so we can put this so-called-league-jinx to rest. But the day didn't start there, oh, no! It started with Liverpool v Manchester United. A win for Liverpool or a drew would help us, and we got a draw. That means if we should win - and the clue is above - we would be only 3 points behind United.

We started off well, but like Burnley, Swansea and Chelsea they came mostly to defend. Bournemouth used a back-five and on the rush tried to score. The first half I thought we had the upper edge, but the second half Pochettino moved this around. But let us start at the beginning:

The Cherries followed in the footsteps of Burnley and Swansea as they sat deep and looked to frustrate us, creating little in a passive first half. I can see most of the clubs below the top 6th trying this tactic in the hope of either getting a point or sneaking a draw.

A  minute gone and Eriksen took advantage of Simon Francis’ inability to clear from the edge of the area and slotted home fine finish. We then started to dominate as we looked like we were going to get another goal. Howe could see which way the match was going and decided to bring on Jordan Ibe and a Spurs favourite Defoe. When Defoe came on he got a standing ovation from a portion of the Spurs crowd. And he did nearly score, but for Hugo Lloris being on fine form.

We came close on many occasions, but eventually only got the one goal.

While a win over Bournemouth would be par for the course for a side chasing a title, a first home win of the season going into a run which will see Tottenham take on Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid – twice – means it’s worth far more than three points.

So we got the win we were waiting for, hopefully when we face Liverpool we will be more relaxed and take the game to them. So a very rewarding day for all concerned.

As we were battling Bournemouth Palace - without a win or goal all season - battled League Champions Chelsea. You would have thought a easy win, but no, Chelsea fell behind, equalised and then conceded another goal to lose 2-1. So far two good results and one bad bad one (City humiliated and thrashed Stoke 7-2). Now we move on to Watford v Arsenal. An easy match one would think, for the gunners that is. But, no. They match to score the first goal, then Watford equalised and got another to win 2-1.

As you will see we (below) we are in a healthy league position for October (and we have two more league games to go: Liverpool (home) & United away).

The next  big test match will be, not in the league, but in the Champions league. Everybody I've talked to has given me the best result would be a draw. But I am going for a 2-1. Mad or visionary, we will see.

Until next time, enjoy.

Yours truly, Don Scully
