Arthur Rowe was one of our great managers. He was the first manager to win us the league in 1950/51. It was 111 years ago today (1 September 1906) that he was born. And it is fitting we remember this great man here. A true Spurs legend.

He invented the "one-two" method of play, of simply, push and run. Rowe was born in Tottenham and began his career at Northfleet United, a nursey club for Tottenham. When at Northfleet he was an amateur player. In 1929 he became professional with Spurs. He was a Tottenham player for eight seasons, after making his debut in 1931,[4] in which time he played 201 games, in all competitions.

He earned a single cap for playing for his country. Sadly he was forced to retire in 1939 because of a cartilage injury.

In 1949 he returned to the club, after being an assistant at C.Palace, as manager. Spurs then were in the second division. He quickly took Spurs out of that division, in the processes winning the title, and then becoming Champions of the First Division. Winning the championship back-to-back made Spurs the first post-war team to win back-to-back titles.

Rowe was forced to resign as manager in 1955 when he became ill. He died in 1993. But he shall always be remembered as the first man ever to win us the league title.
